NEXUSIT

NexUsit is a structural study that celebrates the strength and form of the triangle. The design features layers of cardboard that intersect at the center point of the stool—its "nexus." This layering technique creates a visual density, giving the illusion that the product has been extruded from a single solid block of cardboard, while remaining lightweight and structurally sound.

Materials & Process

True to the Will's Wednesday Work ethos, the materials were "urban foraged" within a short distance of the studio. The primary body is constructed from discarded IKEA 'Ektorp' furniture boxes, rescued from the waste stream. The hardware is equally resourceful, utilizing a specific assembly of found objects:

  • 2x Carriage Bolts (structural core)

  • 2x Jar Lids (washers/caps)

  • 4x Tuna Can lids (load distribution)

Circular Design Philosophy

NexUsit is designed strictly for disassembly. By avoiding all adhesives and relying entirely on mechanical fixings, the stool acknowledges its end-of-life phase before it is even built. When the stool is no longer required, it can be dismantled in minutes. The cardboard goes directly into standard home recycling, and the bolts and metal lids can be reused for future projects, ensuring a closed-loop lifecycle.

FUNCTIONALITY

Despite its humble materials, the triangular geometry provides a robust platform. It serves as a perfect temporary seat—a spot to "touchdown" and take a break—proving that upcycled waste can support the weight of everyday life.
